It doesn’t matter if you’re young or just young at heart, there’s just something cool about trains.
Every year The Southland Society of Model Engineers host a ‘Great Little Train Show’. We’ve been wanting to check it out for a number of years now, but we’ve always been busy when it was on. So when we had the opportunity to go along to a couple of weeks ago it was a no-brainer.
And what a show! There was such a variety of displays and from such a variety of modelers. It was very impressive to see the results from hours of work and dedication.
The level of detail on the displays was fantastic. One example of this was on one of the larger displays there was a boy jumping on a trampoline while a couple of kids were on a nearby see-saw; but they weren’t just frozen in time, the trampoline and see-saw were actually moving. Meanwhile on another display a woman was hanging her washing while another character was nearby digging the garden. And yet another had a painter poised mid-stroke as he repainted a house.
The time, money and pure passion were clearly evident in all the displays.
And it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t use it as an opportunity to create a few miniature images. So here are just a few of our favourites from the Show.
