I’ve been following Sal Cincotta for a wee while now as I love his large scale, architecturally inspired wedding portraiture style.
So You’re Feeling Too Fat to Be Photographed… | Teresa S. Porter
Came across this post today and thought it was brilliantly written and a reminder to us all that we are our own biggest critics. Well worth the read.

365 Photo Challenge – Week 1
And so the 365 Day Photo Challenge begins. This is our first summary of the week that was. Layton kicked off his 365 Challenge with the rugby image above (pun entirely intended). The rest of the week’s images are below. There are only a total of 5 images this week since we started the year on a Wednesday. As you can see Layton has carried on recent experiments with miniatures over the last few days.
Layton’s First Walkabout
As mentioned in our previous post we’re going to be posting some of Layton’s artistic work on here with a tagline Layton’s Walkabouts.
Here are the first group of images – taken around Invercargill and Bluff on the 2nd of Jan.
New Year Changes and Introductions
Currently our business is largely represented via two Facebook pages: Findlater Photography (for client and commercial work) and Layton Findlater Photography (for Layton’s artistic work).
Whilst reevaluating our business recently we discovered that having two separate facets to our business was causing confusion and missed opportunities and although this approach does work for some businesses, it isn’t working for us.
Therefore, in the spirit of the New Year and in creating a more cohesive business we’ve made a couple of decisions:
A Retrospective – 2013 in Review
As we say goodbye to 2013 and ring in the New Year we thought it was the perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months. This has been a time of breaking out for us. A year that saw us shifting away from the normal and start experimenting with lighting and different types of photography; as well as undertaking a couple of themed and collaboration projects.
During 2013 we have also been concentrating on our brand and securing regular printers so we could improve our products and services and expand to offer fine art prints we could be proud of.
Smoke Experiments
Layton came across a video tutorial today – a how to of smoke photography. We’ve done a couple of experiments with smoke photography before but nothing that really ‘worked’. This tutorial was a great motivation to give it another go.
Here are a couple of the results. We were particularly happy with the last one where the smoke billowed in the shape of a skull. Might have to give it another go to create some elements to use in our composite shots next year. Gotta love the holidays…time to muck round and try some stuff you don’t normally get the time to try.
Experimenting with Miniatures (again)
During our 12 Days of Christmas (Images) series recently I expressed my wish to experience a White Christmas. Apparently Santa was listening, but in his old age he got a little confused and the best he could do was rain.
Herein lies our conundrum – what to do when all the shops are shut (or even worse when the Boxing Day sales start and the shops are so overrun you would be mad to even consider going into town) and it’s raining without let up?
12 Days of Christmas (Images) – Bonus Images
Ok, so we couldn’t resist another post!
Today’s going to be mash up of images from our 12 Days series that didn’t quite make it into the Day posts for whatever reason.
The main reason for this post was to thank everyone for following our series and those that liked our posts or commented either on here, via PM on Facebook or in person.
We’ve had such a great time with this series that we’ve decided to join a 365 Day Challenge Group in the New Year. We won’t post all our 365DC images here, but we’ll try to post the best ones. We’re also going to incorporate the WP Weekly Challenge where possible – two birds, one stone and all that. So basically 2014 is just going to be one be challenge for us!
