After doing many streetscapes (the majority of which were shot at dawn or before) over the years I have been told by many of my followers that “you make …… look so beautiful” (fill in the blank with a city name).
It’s true, any city can look beautiful when it’s lit nicely (read artificially) and devoid of people. Sometimes we can be the ones that detract from the beauty of the cities we inhabit.
So further to this quest of finding the beauty in deserted cities and towns, I set out to photograph alleyways. Yes it seems like a strange subject, but time would show that they too can have a certain beauty, a certain attractive quality; even if they’re littered and covered in graffiti.
The following gallery is a selection of alleys that I have captured during my street walks in Dunedin New Zealand.
