12 Days of Christmas (Images) – Day 5

Today we are celebrating one of my favourite things about Christmas…Lights!  There’s nothing more fascinating at this time of year than taking a bit of time out to do the Christmas lights circuit.

If you haven’t already been out, why not head out into your neighbourhood.  What better excuse for a nice family drive – or park up and go for a stroll.  People put so much effort into making their houses look amazing that it would almost be criminal not to get out and appreciate all their hard work (not to mention the money it must cost them).

In Invercargill we have a Light Up Your House competition, these are a couple of the entrants this year.

12 Days of Christmas (Images) – Day 4

Wow!  Day 4 already.  Today we are celebrating the tireless worker bees – the people that work behind the scenes to make things happen.  The ones that do all the work and often don’t get the credit (I’m sure many of us can relate) – today is all about the elves.  These guys were too cute.

Leave a comment and let us know how you think we’re doing with our 12 Days series thus far, we’d love some feedback.

I’m not entirely sure what trains have to do with Christmas, but they always seem to feature in Christmas decorations and Christmas movies such as The Polar Express – so there must be something in it!  If anyone knows, please leave a comment to enlighten me.

In the meantime…who doesn’t like trains!  So whether they actually have anything to do with Christmas or not, today’s all about the Christmas Trains.

Photoshop and Photography

Over the years we’ve had a love-hate relationship with Photoshop.  When we were first introduced to it we were in it for the quick fixes and the easy ‘wow’s.  As time passed we started experimenting with everything Photoshop could do.  This was followed by a short but intense phase of composite creation.  Here are a few examples of some of Layton’s early composites:

12 Days of Christmas (Images) – Day 2

It’s not Christmas until someone plays Snoopy’s Christmas (AKA Snoopy vs The Red Baron).  Since we couldn’t track down a decent Snoopy for today’s post we decided to dig into our archives and pull out some shots from 2008’s Warbirds Over Wanaka – International Airshow.

Enjoy!  And don’t forget to come back tomorrow to check out what we have planned for Day 3.

12 Days of Christmas (Images) – Day 1

To celebrate Christmas this year we thought we would post our take on the twelve days of Christmas.  This has absolutely nothing to do with the Twelve Days of Christmas song, except that we “borrowed” the idea and gave it our spin.

Over the next twelve days we’re going to post a Christmas related image or images.  So here we are at Day 1 – Candles in Remembrance of those that can’t be with us this Christmas.

Day 1 - Candles of Remembrance

Be sure to check back on the blog tomorrow to see what Day 2 brings!

Getting back to basics

Exciting times lay ahead for us!  We’ve just managed to secure a Nikon F5 – one of the last professional film SLR cameras released by Nikon.

Despite loving the D800 Layton’s been looking at getting back into film photography recently.  He really misses the look and feel of film as well as the need for learned precision that using film creates (compared to the shutterbug nature of digital).

Now to track some film down…
